My Weekly Totals: The "MEAT" Edition

After discussing the many ways we can save when buying meat last week, I decided to stock up with about 6 weeks worth of meat for my family of six. I went to my local Sedano's where they offer custom butcher services, and purchased a little over 15 lbs of top round beef (roughly 1/2) on sale for $1.99 lb. The butcher broke this down as follows:

7 1/2 lbs of thinly sliced steaks (or 21 individual steaks)
2 1/2 lbs of beef for stew
5 lbs of ground beef

The total for this purchase was $31.66! WOW!

If I had bought the same amount of meat {at regular price, of course}, I would have spent anywhere between $90 -$100 (and this would be on a good day). By purchasing the meat on sale and in bulk, I was able to buy 6 weeks worth of meat at a savings of 65%. Not bad at all, right?

My meat purchase this weekend was a great example of the savings you can achieve when combining just a few of my meat-saving tips - buying during sales, buying in bulk and using custom butcher services.
